Superintendent Update: Mask Mandate

In accordance with the OHA lifting of the state-wide indoor mask mandate, we will be lifting the mask mandate beginning March 12 in the Coos Bay School District. Masks will become optional at that time.

Coos Bay Schools looking for volunteers for Equity Advisory Committee

The Oregon Legislature passed SB 732, which requires the establishment of an educational equity advisory committee in each school district to advise school boards and superintendents about the educational equity impacts of policy decisions and to inform district leaders when situations arise that negatively impact underrepresented students.

Free flu shot clinics in memory of Blake Crane

In partnership with Waterfall Clinic, the Coos Bay School District is offering four free, voluntary flu shot clinics at its schools in the coming weeks, all dedicated to the memory of Blake Crane

February 9, 2022 Superintendent Update

As of yesterday’s report, all counties in the state remain in the high category of community spread. The good news is that over the last few weeks, we have seen a decline in both COVID cases and hospitalizations. The projected data, if the decline continues at current rates, is that our case numbers and hospitalizations will be down below where they were prior to the latest surge.

National School Counseling Week

This week is officially recognized as National School Counseling Week. Attached is the proclamation from Governor Brown. Please join me in thanking our school counselors, mental health therapists, and behavior specialists for all the work they have put in to support our district students, staff, and community over the past couple of difficult years. I truly appreciate all who support mental health in our schools.
