With winter finally releasing its grip on Coos Bay, fourth-grade students at Millicoma School are getting hands-in lessons on plants and worms that help plants thrive.
Heather Lilienthal with the Oregon State University Extension Service visited the fourth graders in Millicoma twice in recent weeks. During the first visit, she worked with students on planting spring plants. During her second visit this week, she brought along worms.
Each student made a worm bin to give the invertebrates a place to live as they grow.
