Welcome to Millicoma!

Millicoma Intermediate SchoolHome of the Mustangs!

Where we are building strong minds, strong hearts, and a strong learning community every day! Millicoma serves 4th through 7th grade students in the Coos Bay Public Schools. We are committed to creating a safe, caring, collaborative learning community where student achievement is first and foremost. Classrooms grades 4-6 are self-contained, giving us the delightful atmosphere of an elementary school, while the 7th grade classrooms are content-based. While striving to maintain the innocence of our 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 year old children, we work very hard at helping those same children develop the skills they need in order to make a smooth transition into the high school. Helping our students become safe, respectful, responsible citizens is a daily occurrence at Millicoma School. Our partnership with parents and the community is vital in meeting these needs.

Principal’s Message

Welcome Back!

We hope that the first two weeks of the 2014-2015 school year have been smooth enough for all.  We are off to a fabulous start to the school year!  Our custodial and maintenance teams have done another amazing job getting our school polished up for the school year.  Our teachers put in many extra hours ensuring the curriculum and classrooms were prepared for the students.  In summary, it has been a huge team effort to prepare for school and I think it shows.  As we sift through the first round of  EZCBM results  the numbers are telling us what we  already know: Millicoma is on the right track!  Our school report card was again very strong and we look to build on that this year.  We will continue to offer an engaging, challenging curriculum and strive to meet the needs of all students.  Our staff is committed to working hard for our community and it is a sincere pleasure to come to work every day here.  Here’s to another successful year at Millicoma School!

Coos Bay School’s Building Configuration Options Survey #3

Coos Bay School’s Building Configuration Options Survey #3

The Coos Bay School District has long shared with the community the rapidly aging condition of their facilities as well their ideas for providing 21st Century learning environments for your children and grandchildren.

The Board asks that you take part in this third survey in our continuing work of Phase 1 to create a long-range (3-5 years) facility plan. We need input on two building configuration options that were recommended by the Coos Bay Schools Facilities Outreach Committee and are based on community input from previous surveys. We are looking for further clarification on whether our current configuration has community support, or if not, which of the two options the community would support.

Here is the link to the survey – https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/cbschoolssurvey3 . You will also find the survey posted at www.cbd9.net and the survey will be open until August 22nd. The survey contains seven questions. We appreciate you taking a few moments to answer the questions.

Survey results will be reviewed at the September 8th School Board Meeting. The meeting starts at 6:00 PM and will be held at Milner Crest Education Center located at 1255 Hemlock Ave. (north of Mingus Park off N. 10th St.).

We want you to be involved in this important discussion. We cannot do this without our parents, staff and community.  We will not do this without our parents, staff and community.  You can make the difference.

If you do not have computer access, please contact Peggy Ahlgrim at 541-267-1310 to have a paper copy mailed to you or to schedule access to a computer.

For more information, contact:      Ariann Lyons at jasonandariann@hotmail.com      Rocky Place at rockyp@coos-bay.k12.or.us or (541)297-9040

Volunteer Trainings

Coos Bay School District is offering School Volunteer Trainings on September 18th and 25th. The training is free and open to the public. You’ll learn what volunteers need to know to help in the classroom, cafeteria, office and playground. Free breakfast or dinner is provided with your registration and there is limited childcare available.

The September 18th training will be at Madison Elementary School in the Gym and the September 25th training will be at Blossoms Gulch Elementary School in the Cafeteria. Both will have sessions from 8:00 – 10:00 AM and 5:30 – 7:30 PM.

If you haven’t signed up to volunteer for the 2014-15 school year, go to http://cbd9.net/human-resources/volunteers. The more volunteers involved in our schools, the better the students do.

To register or for more information, please call 541-888-1588. Your registration will give us a headcount for the meals and childcare. Click here for flyer: Volunteer Orientation Flyer

This training is provided in collaboration with Pathways to Positive Parenting, OSU Open Campus and Southwestern Oregon Community College.

Attendance Calling

The district office would like to give you an update on the automated attendance service. It has been activated and is programmed to call the primary number listed for the student whenever they have an unexcused absence. If you know your student is going to be absent, please contact the office before 8:30 AM to excuse the absence or send a note with your student when they return to school. If you call after the cut-off time, you will still receive the automated call.

If you would like to change the number that is called or remove a number, please contact the school office and they will be happy to make the change for you.
