GIRLS ROCK Math & Science Fair

GIRLS ROCK, a math and science fair, will be held Saturday, May 30, from 2:00 to 4:00, at the Boys and Girls Club in Coos Bay.  This free event will be open to all fourth and fifth grade girls.  The purpose is to help more girls learn about and get interested in the Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) professions. They will meet women from our area who have careers in medicine, engineering, and science, have a chance to play math and science games, participate in experiments and win prizes.  Parents are welcome but not required to attend.  Bus transportation at no cost to the girls will be provided from all of the elementary schools in the county.   For questions, contact zontagirlsrock@gmail.com.  Registration forms will be distributed at the school mid-May.  This event is sponsored by the Zonta Club of the Coos Bay Area.

Welcome to Millicoma!

Millicoma Intermediate SchoolHome of the Mustangs!

Where we are building strong minds, strong hearts, and a strong learning community every day! Millicoma serves 4th through 7th grade students in the Coos Bay Public Schools. We are committed to creating a safe, caring, collaborative learning community where student achievement is first and foremost. Classrooms grades 4-6 are self-contained, giving us the delightful atmosphere of an elementary school, while the 7th grade classrooms are content-based. While striving to maintain the innocence of our 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 year old children, we work very hard at helping those same children develop the skills they need in order to make a smooth transition into the high school. Helping our students become safe, respectful, responsible citizens is a daily occurrence at Millicoma School. Our partnership with parents and the community is vital in meeting these needs.

Terracycle at Millicoma

TerraCycle is on a mission to eliminate the idea of waste. We do this by creating waste collection programs (each one is called a “Brigade”) for previously non-recyclable, or difficult-to-recycle, waste. The collected waste is then converted into new products, ranging from recycled park benches to upcycled backpacks. TerraCycle has a team of scientists and designers that have figured out how to recycle and upcycle all the waste we collect into cool new products. We are participating in TerraCycle® Brigade® collection programs!TerraCycle’s goal is to eliminate the idea of waste by creating collection and solution programs for all kinds of typically non-recyclable waste. These programs are free, and for each unit of waste collected we will earn TerraCycle points redeemable for upcycled products, charitable gifts, or payment to our school. At home, collect the waste listed here and send it in to school with your student. The waste will then be recycled through TerraCycle and we will earn funding for our school.  terra
