Principal Kevin Guthrie

Dear Millicoma Families,

With the beginning of February, we’ve surpassed the half-way point of the school year. We have just over 80 classroom days with our students remaining.

A big focus of the Oregon Department of Education and the Coos Bay School Board is student attendance. The Department of Education has set a requirement of 90% of our students attending 90% of the time. If a student misses more than 17 days in the school year they will fall short of 90% attendance.

Our current attendance percentages are:
Third-grade: 78%
Fourth-grade: 73%
Fifth-grade: 70%
Sixth-grade: 64%

Attendance is important to your student’s learning, we’re counting on you to help us improve our attendance percentages.

Two of our teachers, Ms. Homann and Ms. Martin are leading students in learning about the Millicoma Marsh through the Estuary Explorers program. This group meets after school on Tuesdays (3rd and 4th grade) and Wednesdays (5th and 6th grade) from   2:45-4:30.

All of our fourth-grade classes will be traveling to the Plank House to expand their learning and understanding of our local tribe’s history and culture.

Our students will also have the opportunity to compete in OBOB competitions on the 4th, 11th, 25th and 26th.

Thank you for partnering with us in your student’s education.

Sincerely,
Kevin Guthrie, Interim Principal
