Coos Bay School District made a strong move aimed at improving reading proficency for students in the 2022-23 school year by unveiling new reading curriculum at all schools.
The Amplify curriculum teaches the science of reading model, with an emphasis on phonics.
The question is whether the change is making a difference.
On Tuesday, February 7, Millicoma School is inviting parents and student families to get a first look at how the increased reading effort is paying off.
Principal Gary Roberts is hosting a Family Reading Data Night, where he will explain the science of reading, the assessments being used at the school and how the district is using the data it collects.
Pizza, juice and cookies will be provided, and daycare will be available for children. All Millicoma parents are invited to get an early look at the progress being made.
